

The BvK is an organisation which focuses on the interests of clothing manufacturers, tailors and directors of fashion design schools. It also provides consumer information. Among its members the BvK has, self-employed, men and women's [tailored] clothing manufacturers, couturiers, tailors employed by couturiers, designers and manufacturers of costumes for the stage as well as those who own a clothing repair shop and various other fashion studios. Members also include a large number of fashion design schools.
Goals
BvK has the following goals:
- Looking after the interests of the fashion industry and fashion design schools.
- Promoting a good standard of professional training and the harmonisation of the national [private] fashion schools.
- Promoting BvK professional recognition
- Strengthening communication between all BvK members
- Opening up these days for anyone with an interest in our field.
- Exchange of national and international contacts, including international contacts through participation in the international fashion shows, tailors from outside the union are also allowed to participate in the preliminaries of the European Master Tailor Congress [EMTC] in even years and the World Federation of Master Tailors [WFMT] in odd years.

- Publication of the BvK News and BvK Special
- Exchanges during the workshops and the congress
- Creating a possibility to get professional recognition for the BvK
Regional programs
In order to establish optimal contact between its members the BvK has been divided into 5 regions. Each region organises its own workshops, i.e. Informative gatherings, on central locations in the Netherlands. Programmes may vary but will contain the following elements:
- Meeting colleagues
- Technical information
- Exchanging processing methods
- Communal visits to exhibitions and other relevant events

Other
The BvK has deposited terms of delivery to consumers [in Dutch] with the Chamber of Commerce at Arnhem.
The BvK offers its members a small number of labels with information on the composition of the product and washing instructions. This labelling is legally required in the Netherlands.
The BvK offers suppliers the opportunity to establish contact with its members by means of renting out stands during 2 national information days.
